"Shifting Identities: Syrian Refugee Women in Germany"
The dissertation thematizes the life of the Syrian women who fled to Germany to escape the crises in Syria that has been ongoing since 2011. Adding to the traumatizing escape from their home country, ensuing the loss of their previous status and life, the women must orient themselves in a new environment, adapting to a new culture with different laws and customs. The dramatic switch in physical realities hints the possibility for the women to develop and enter a new reality, implying a different social construct including new knowledge and a new socialization. An extensive field work has been completed to find an answer, including 44 interviews with women of all ages and social background.
