Social Anthropology in Bayreuth
The University of Bayreuth is one of the largest locations of teaching and research in social and cultural anthropology in Germany.
The department of Social and Cultural Anthropology is composed of 6 professorships and offers a wide range of themes in teaching. Current research foci include anthropology of politics and law, kinship and the course of life, global inequalities, (im)mobility, science and technology studies, and economic anthropology.
Social and cultural anthropology with a focus on Africa receives special attention as Bayreuth has a long experience in Africa-related research and education. This expert knowledge is also reflected in the program of the Cluster of Excellence Africa Multiple.
